CULTURAL WONDERS OF UKRAINE EXHIBIT
UAST Board Member, Chrystya Geremesz created an incredible exhibit of Ukrainian Cultural pieces at the J Erik Jonsson Library in Downtown Dallas that spanned from January 23, 2026 through April 28th of 2026. The exhibit highlighted Ukrainian art, embroidery, textiles, pottery, wood carvings, jewelry, pysanky, traditional instruments and much more! Weekly film showings and cultural presentations were added for visitors to further explore the vibrant culture of Ukraine. A gallery of photographs showcased Ukraine's beauty and a separate gallery highlighting Kharkiv, Ukraine, one of Dallas' Sister Cities provided viewers to see the city's resilience as they are near the border and feeling the impact of the war, quite severely.
The Exhibit was visited by Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, the Ukrainian Consulate of Houston Vitalii Tarasiuk, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Olha Stefanishyna and the Honorable First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska. The First Lady presented a number of Ukrainian books in English and Ukrainian to our North Texas Community under her project titled "Ukrainian Bookshelf"! All are welcome to learn more about Ukraine through the enhanced collection of Ukrainian Books now available at the Dallas Public Library.
First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska's Visit on 3-26-26
It was an honor to have the First Lady of Ukraine visit the Cultural Wonders of Ukraine Exhibit! During a brief but productive visit to Dallas, The First Lady visited to the J Erik Jonsson Library to present a number of selected Ukrainian Books through her Ukrainian Bookshelf project. Mayor Eric Johnson, wearing his gifted embroidered shirt, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Gay Donnell WIllis, Library Director Manya Shorr and Exhibit Creator Chrystya Geremesz greeted the First Lady and the Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Olha Stefanishyna. A tour of the Cultural Exhibit and short program launching the Ukrainian Bookshelf Project ensued. Dallas City Staff and local Ukrainian Organizational Leaders were present and experienced this memorable event!

Mayor Eric Johnson's Visit on 3-2-26
Mayor Johnson has been a true supporter of Ukraine and within hours of news about the war in 2022, reached out to our Ukrainian Community to ask how he can help. The Mayor also initiated the Kharkiv, Ukraine Sister City program to foster a relationship that supports cultural education, business development and overall city relations! He was thrilled to visit the exhibit and was truly moved by the beautiful displays and dedicated room for Kharkiv. UAST gifted him an embroidered cloth and a Petrykivka Painting!

The official opening of this exhibit was on Friday, January 23, 2026 from 1-2:30 PM at J Erik Jonsson Library, 4th Floor in downtown Dallas. Representatives from the City of Dallas, Dallas Public Library, Council Members, and local Ukrainian organizations were invited to participate in the largest-ever Cultural Exhibit About Ukraine in Texas!
Local Ukrainian Food Sponsors provided an excellent sampling for the attendees: MultiCook, Cooking Borscht, and Dallie Smokehouse

In 2022, the Dallas City Council unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and suspending their Sister City ties with Saratov, Russia. Two years later at the World Economic Forum, discussions between the City of Dallas and the City of Kharkiv, Ukraine led to the signing of a Friendship Agreement – a commitment between the two cities to begin a productive partnership including economic, educational and cultural exchange. Before and after photos from 6 buildings showed the devastation this city has had to endure.

The 280-page book is packed with 310 beautiful and often dramatic images.
